Last week, to celebrate the Lunar New Year, a wide range of fun and engaging activities for both staff and students were organised by Kaitlin, one of our Heads of School. It was fantastic to see so many of our community getting involved in the activities which included Chinese calligraphy with ink and brushes, Mah Jong, origami, and paper decorations.
With the UCAS deadline last week and Cambridge releasing their offers on Thursday, it has been a busy time for our Futures Department and we were delighted to hear that many students have received excellent offers to a wide range of universities and courses. Congratulations to everyone, in particular Flora, Julia, Carrie, and Mairi who have been offered places at Oxford and Cambridge and all in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Maths) subjects.
The Roedean Academy programme launched last week and 15 Roedean students hosted 75 like-minded Year 10 students from local state schools, who all have high aspirations and are keen to be challenged intellectually. The visiting students enjoyed a tour of the School, before discussing social dilemmas in small groups. They will continue to enjoy further modules over the next few weeks, and we look forward to hearing how they get on.
Finally, we marked Holocaust Memorial Day with a dedicated Chapel service during which we heard a quotation from the diary of Anne Frank, whose poignant memories reflect the experience of so many persecuted in World War II. Some of our Year 12 and 13 students were then invited to reflect on why it is still important to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day each year – you can read their reflections in the full review below.
