Throughout our history, Roedean has benefited from the support of our community to provide excellent facilities, and a home and an education for those in need. Your support now can ensure that this legacy continues for future generations of Roedeanians.
In 1885, Roedean was founded as Wimbledon House School by the pioneering Lawrence Sisters. Within 10 years, the School had grown so much, that they identified a need to move to a new purpose built school. The Sisters proceeded to use their network of friends, family, and Old Girls, to raise the funds needed to build our beautiful School on our iconic clifftop site.
Without this support, and the ongoing support of our community throughout the years, Roedean would not be the place it is today. Our Chapel was furnished through donations, the Swimming Pool opened due to the support of parents in the 1970s, the Science Wing and Theatre were built due to your support in the 1990s, and most recently, our all-weather pitch was built and our Theatre refurbished thanks to the ongoing generosity of the Roedean family.
Historically, our community’s support has also enabled Roedean to provide Bursaries to girls who wouldn’t otherwise be able to enjoy the benefits of a Roedean education. With current financial pressures, and the introduction of VAT on school fees, requests for support from families is increasing.
Did being at Roedean help make you who you are today? Do you believe a Roedean education gives young women the very best start in life?
If you would like to give something back, you can make a charitable donation to Roedean, or give your time and become involved in School life.
We are hugely grateful to all our generous benefactors who wish to support Roedean’s vision and we greatly appreciate every gift, large or small.
For more information on how you can get involved, or donate to Roedean, read below, or contact Mrs Grace Chaston, Head of Alumnae and Development: by email: [email protected], by telephone: 01273 667398 or by post at the School address.
Naming a seat in the Theatre is a wonderful opportunity to leave your mark at the School, connecting past, present, and future Roedeanians, and is a mark of our gratitude to you for your support.
Whatever you choose to give to, whether it is Bursaries, Capital Projects, or an Unrestricted donation, donations over £200 will enable you to name a seat in the Roedean Theatre, or for donations over £250, you can add a message as well. If you donate £500, you are able to name a seat with a message in rows B-E, and a donation of £1000 will allow you to name the last remaining seat in the front row.
Throughout Roedean’s history the school has been proud to support girls with bursaries and scholarships. Much of this has been possible due to the generosity of our community. We are constantly looking to increase the level of support we are able to offer, and the need for help is currently higher than ever before.
Bursaries are means-tested and are vital to ensuring that access to a Roedean education is possible for all, whatever your background. All donations to our general bursary fund are gratefully received, or if you would like to discuss sponsoring a named Bursary, then please do get in touch.
If you would like more information about how a donation from you could support future Roedean girls, then please click 'discuss with us' and a member of the development team will get in touch with you, get in touch directly with Grace Chaston, or click below to make a donation.
If you are thinking of making or updating a will, once you have taken care of family and friends, you may wish to consider leaving a bequest to Roedean.
Whether you wish to endow a Bursary, provide funds for a capital project, bestow an asset, or gift your stocks and shares, your bequest will be honoured and you will create a lasting legacy which will benefit future generations of Roedeanians. If you notify us of your intention to leave Roedean a gift, you will become a member of the Lawrence Society.
As a charity, a legacy or bequest to Roedean School (Charity Number 307063) is exempt from Inheritance Tax (IHT). This means a gift to the School in your will could reduce your potential IHT liability. We always recommend you obtain the latest IHT advice from your professional advisor.
If you would like to know more about leaving a gift to Roedean in your will, please contact Grace Chaston by email ([email protected]), phone (01273 667398) or post (The Roedeanian Office, Roedean School, Roedean Way, Brighton.
