Last week, our community came together in a whole school Chapel service in the Front Quad as we marked the 80th anniversary of VE Day. As many of you will know, Roedean was evacuated during World War II and in March this year, one of the girls who was part of the group who went to Canada, celebrated her 100th birthday. Jennifer Watson was the last surviving ‘Tanner Girl’, the fourth of five sisters who came to Roedean and were related to the former Head, Emmeline Tanner, she sadly passed away shortly after her birthday.

Our Festival Fringe concert was a triumph, with over one hundred musicians performing. There were sensational solo performances, and it was wonderful to hear the Choir perform an extremely challenging piece by Lily Boulanger. Congratulations to all the musicians and to the Music Department for providing the opportunity to perform at this level.

Finally, the first written public examinations began last week, and we wish all the students taking GCSEs and A Levels the very best of luck. The Year 13s celebrated their Leavers’ Day with a lovely farewell breakfast with their tutors and friends as it will be the last time they are all together before Speech Day.
