BSA Sleep Champion School
In a fantastic initiative, led by Mrs Arnall in Keswick House, we recently conducted a sleep audit across boarding. We surveyed our boarding students on their sleep habits, discussing obstacles to good sleep while looking at how sleep plays a vital role in promoting increased well-being.
This time of year can be particularly stressful with the pressure of exams along with social media and wider technology use, and both the borders and staff are aware that to stay healthy the whole person needs to be considered and more than ever our sleep hygiene.
Following this research our boarding team are working together to create a toolkit with practical tips to promote quality sleep and it has been wonderful to see our boarders championing this approach to help support and influence others.
We are proud that our work has been accredited by the BSA and that we are now a ‘Sleep Champion’ recognised school. We hope to continue to raise awareness around well-being, and positive mental and physical health.
New Prefect Team
This term, in Chapel, the new Prefect team for next year were introduced to staff and students. The team of twenty Prefects, including Lydia and Chaya as Heads of School, will lead, guide and support the student body. We look forward to their hard work and leadership over the coming year and wish them the best of luck.
"A huge source of motivation for me are the teaching staff and housemistresses; their dedication and enthusiasm is infectious and drives me to take advantage of everything the school has to offer. It's hard not to be uplifted by Roedean's vibrant, spirited atmosphere, it's truly inspiring seeing the school cohort achieve so much, and it pushes me to do the same." –
Chaya, Head of School
"What motivates me is that I want to make the most out of all the opportunities Roedean has to offer. Motivation comes from within, but also surrounding yourself with passionate people who want to succeed certainly helps! You get out what you put in, so what’s the point of not giving it your all?" –
Lydia, Head of School
Summer Summits Snowdon
In an exciting challenge over the Easter holidays, Summer in Year 7, climbed the infamous and magnificent Mount Snowdon, one of Wales’ most iconic natural landmarks and all to raise funds for Rockinghorse, the Year 7 charity.
Located within Snowdonia National Park, Snowdon has an elevation of 3560ft above sea level and is both the highest mountain in Wales and the highest in the British Isles south of the Scottish Highlands.
With challenging weather on the day and high winds, it was certainly a tough journey, but with grit and determination she made it to the top – well done Summer!
Boarding Round-Up
In a fantastic end to the Spring term, the Boarding prefects hosted a fantastic Boarding X-Factor which was a wonderful opportunity to all come together. The evening was filled with incredible singing and dancing and really highlighted the amazing talent we have at Roedean.
Cooking and baking across the Houses was as popular as ever, and the students made savoury delights such as Korean corn dogs and homemade ravioli as well as some Easter themed cakes topped with delicious chocolate mini eggs.
Many headed off on shopping trips, coming back with bags filled with treats, and some even bought Easter gifts to take home to their families. To keep the Easter theme going, two of the Houses teamed up for a huge Easter bunny hunt. The winners collected an impressive 184 bunnies and of course were awarded with some delicious chocolate eggs!
