Christmas Fair
Although the date of our annual Christmas Fair had to be moved due to wet and windy weather, it certainly didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits, and the event really was a festive success!
Weeks of planning paid off as our students worked extremely hard building vibrant and creative stalls. With everything from sponge the teacher and homemade lavender bags to singing in the fireplace and festive netball. Other students showcased their entrepreneurial side, creating stunning handmade jewellery and one group even offered the opportunity to purchase Roedean branded joggers!
The incredible hard work and efforts of our dedicated students is in support of meaningful causes and helps raise vital funds for our chosen charities all while bringing that all important festive spirit. Despite the last minute change to the Fair, an incredible over £2,900 was still raised for our School charities - well done to all!
Snow Ball
The Sixth Form celebrated a successful term with an evening of music and dancing at our annual Snow Ball. Keswick Hall was transformed into a twinkling festive delight and all the guests and students took the opportunity to dress up and make some wonderful memories. Thank you to all the students and staff who helped make the event a success.
Ice Skating with Tonbridge
Years 10 and 11 enjoyed their final social of the term - ice skating with Tonbridge School. Despite the inclement weather, the girls skated circles around the boys with their impressive skills on the rink. It was a perfect way to wrap up the term and everyone left with a smile on their face.
Staff Pantomime
The Staff Panto has become an annual favourite for the whole school, and this year they did not disappoint. Prefects Galina, Fleur and Ella took on the considerable challenge of writing the script, and then managing and directing a cast of over 25 staff - no mean feat when struggling to find much needed rehearsal time.
The show this year was Peter Pan, and saw Peter take Wendy, Michael and John back to Neverland, where they met up with the Lost Boys to go on an adventure to find Santa Claus, or his alias, Captain Hook's book and try to move their names from the naughty list to the nice list. With help from fairies, mermaids, and the crocodile along the way, the show was great fun and had the whole audience cracking up with laughter throughout (sometimes at some of the less than subtle ways the cast hid their scripts on stage). We are now looking forward to seeing what next year has in store!
House Christmas Decorating Competition
On Wednesday evening, Senior Team were taken on a tour through all six Houses, to enjoy their immersive Christmas Decorations, our final House competition of the year. Always a closely fought battle, this year was particularly impressive, with all of the Houses pulling out all the stops to try and win the coveted title of overall best Christmas Decorationsl.
Each House had a clear theme, and told their stories well as you travelled through. House 1 held a wonderful candlelit carol service, had a 'real' fire in the ODR, and won Best Christmas Tree with their tree adorned with their House Mascot.
House 2 had a Home Alone theme, with props replicating some of the traps set for the burglars - we can confirm though that no member of Senior Team was injured in the process of judging! They were awarded Best Tree Topper, for their hand drawn representation of Kevin and the burglars.
House 3 chose Willy Wonka for their theme - and really threw themselves into it with the JPR becoming an 'Elf-aloompa' hospital, the ODR fireplace being transformed into the chocolate river, and a script about how Wonka's sister was spoiling Christmas. They won the price for Most Festive ODR/Common Room.
It was then on to House 4, and their Nutcracker theme, with Senior Team welcomed in by a ballerina and the Nutcracker Prince, who danced and then engaged in a sword fight. Their Nutcracker themed joke won them Best Christmas Joke.
The Sixth Form Houses also didn't disappoint. Keswick narrated the story of The Night Before Christmas brilliantly, with not one but two inflatable santa's joining them this year! They performed an incredible rendition of the Carol of The Bells, winning them Best Carol, before the whole House joined in to sing Fairytale of New York.
Last but not least, Lawrence presented the story of The Grinch. A small group sang Where are you Christmas before the party really started with the whole House joining in to dance to Rocking around the Christmas Tree. The incredible atmosphere won them Best Christmas Cheer.
Overall it was a lovely evening, and it was clear that a lot of effort had been put into preparing each presentation. But there could only be one overall winner - and this year the prize was awarded to House 3 for their seamless storytelling and best use of all their spaces. Congratulations!
