On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, 106 years after the end of World War I, Roedean fell silent as we marked Remembrance. Roedean’s newly form CCF stood to attention when the trumpet sounded and Ellen (Yr 12) played the Last Post and the Rouse, while Noëlle Chase and Mrs Green laid wreaths as representatives of the ORA and School.
To mark Anti-Bullying Week, we held Odd Socks Day on Tuesday as well as a whole series of activities in the fireplace each day, ran by the Prefects and Miss Orrells. It was great to see the students engage with these and take the time to think more deeply about bullying and its effects.
Our Sustainability Prefects have been leading the Early Spider Orchids Project, which is part of a renewed focus at Roedean on how we can be eco-friendly and sustainable. It was wonderful to hear that this month they celebrated the successful growth of four orchids, while later this month another group of students will be attending an online conference about what we can all do to help clean up our oceans.
Finally, it has been fantastic that some of our students have been taking part in conferences at other schools, including the Model United Nations and the Young Pastoral Leaders’ Conference. We will also be hosting a Maths Enrichment Day at Roedean and an ESU Debating Competition, all of which are great opportunities for our students to collaborate and share their ideas with others.
