Charity Abseil

As part of their year group fundraising initiative, and to mark the end of their Wild Fridays experience, Year 7 took it in turns to abseil down Peacehaven cliffs. The students were all incredibly brave and faced their challenge head on, all to raise funds for the Rockinghorse Children’s Charity – well done everyone!

Year 7 Music Showcase

This month our Year 7 students came together to showcase what they have learnt over the year as part of the Year 7 Instrumental Project. At the start of the year, they began to learn a new instrument and it was wonderful to see them playing Violins, Trombones, Bassoons, Violas, Clarinets, and Trumpets.

Isabelle Wins in the U14 Southeast Hockey Championships

Congratulations to Isabelle in Year 7, who recently won the U14 Southeast Hockey Championships with HC Knole Park in a fantastic end to the season.

To win the tournament, Knole Park beat the other Southeast area league winners which were, Chertsey, Thames Valley, Burnt ash and Horsham.

It is a brilliant achievement, but even more so as Isabelle play two years above her age group!

Rockpools Day

This month we welcomed 34 prospective students to Roedean for our annual Rockpools Day and it was clear to see that they thoroughly enjoyed being back at the School.

They headed down to the beach with buckets and nets to see what they could find, and managed to spot crabs, anemones, fish, and shrimp!

Although the weather was lovely and sunny there was a strong breeze which proved rather helpful as the students then went on to learn about the Physics of the wind, before putting their learning to the test and flying their own kites.

The staff involved did a fantastic job and it was particularly nice to see some of our Year 9 students acting as helpers during the event.

Kung Fu Nun at Roedean

We were delighted to welcome Lopen Jigme Tingdzin (Ting), of the Kung Fu Nuns to Roedean this month to talk to our Year 12. These Buddhist nuns in Nepal, strive for equality and represent female empowerment. The nuns promote equality for women, girls, and marginalised communities, through teaching self-defence, advocating against human trafficking, and providing disaster relief.

During the talk, Ting spoke about the importance of sorority and being considerate to others. Following this, Ting guided the students through a meditation session - they absolutely loved the experience and all donated to the LivetoLove Charity which is represented by Ting.

Success for Roedean Athletes

Roedean Athletes from Years 7-11 competed at the Brighton, Hove, and Portslade Town Sports - a great event that sees local independent and state schools compete to win numerous trophies in a range of different categories.

Over two days, our squads did brilliantly with strong performances both in the field and on the track. There were some amazing personal bests achieved, and the combined squad won the Girls’ Jump Cup, Girls’ Throw Cup, were joint first in the Girls’ Relay Cup, and Overall Girls’ Winners – what a fantastic collective achievement.

Boarding Round-up

Our boarders have had a wonderful month full of activities and have managed to enjoy some beautiful sunshine too.

We celebrated National Boarding Week this month and there was a fantastic schedule for all to enjoy. The students participated in a step-challenge, walking down the infamous ‘Secret Tunnel’ to the beach, and were rewarded with some well-deserved ice creams at the end. Our Prefects organised a brilliant and competitive quiz night, and towards the end of the week, we enjoyed a night of music, campfire songs, and even a firepit which was perfect for toasting marshmallows!

To celebrate the final weekend of the academic year, the whole boarding community came together for our Boarding Carnival. The students had a wonderful time and enjoyed games of laser tag, tug-of-war, egg and spoon races, an inflatable obstacle course, and everyone’s favourite, soaking the staff with water balloons!
