Last week, on Thursday, we marked Founders’ Day at Roedean, remembering the founding Lawrence sisters and giving thanks for their courage and creativity. We also showed our gratitude to others who have left their mark on the School over the years in so many different ways.
As part of the Founders’ Day Commemoration Service, we remembered those members of our community who have passed away over the last year and lit a candle for each. The service was beautiful and evocative, made particularly so as we were joined by Old Roedeanians and family members who were remembering their loved ones.
A group of Year 8 students took part in Visual Impairment Training, to prepare them for a sponsored challenge that will help raise funds for our neighbours the Blind Veterans UK. The brave students will wear specifically designed googles that will replicate varying degrees of sight loss while being supported by a guide. They will then swap roles to experience both simulated sight loss and guiding, all as part of the fundraising for the Year 8 chosen charity.
Finally last week saw Roedean’s outstanding performances of Les Misérables. The girls were magnificent, with the most fantastic singing and excellent characterisation, a truly spectacular production with so many students involved not only on stage but also behind the scenes. Huge congratulations to everyone involved! You can read more about the show including some brilliant photos in the full Head’s Weekly Review below.
