We are extremely proud of all our Year 13 and Year 11 students for showing such resilience, determination and good humour in the face of three years of disruption and adversity. Despite the challenges that they have faced, both year groups achieved the School's best ever results at A Level and GCSE.

At GCSE 47.4% of all grades were awarded the highest Grade 9 (equivalent to an A**). In total 1,260 GCSEs were taken, 597 were awarded Grade 9, and 85.3% were awarded Grades 9-7 (equivalent to A*-A), an exceptional achievement for the girls.

However, it is important to remember that it isn't just examination results which matter. The fact that two members of this year group swam in the cross-Channel relay in the middle of their exams is an example of how rounded Roedean students are. There have also been very many examples of exceptional commitment to sport, dance, drama, art, music and community activities across this year group.

At A Level, our students achieved an astonishing 71% of grades at A* or A, with an incredible 30.5% A* grades. Showing strength across the year group, well over half of the cohort achieved three or more A grades, an oustanding achievement.

Their results provide a very strong springboard to the next stage in the girls' education, with 73% of the girls achieving their first-choice university, despite this year having been the most competitive year for university entry, with many students having deferred over the last couple of years.

The most popular university destinations are Cambridge, Edinburgh, King's College London, University College London and the London School of Economics. Nearly a third of the students will be pursuing STEM courses at university, but they will also be taking up an impressive range of creative arts undergraduate courses as well.

Some personal stories of A Level successes are:

Stella: A*A*A will take her to Oxford

Well done to Stella, who has achieved A Level A* grades in History and Economics, an A in Latin, and an A* for the Extended Project Qualification.  In October, she will be reading Ancient and Modern History at Corpus Christi College, Oxford.

‘I honestly had no idea how I had done, but I’m so pleased that all the work I put in came off.  It has been a tricky few years, joining a new school for Sixth Form right in the middle of Covid, and Economics was a brand new subject for me.  I’m so happy!’

Maths at Cambridge for Kristina

Congratulations to Kristina who has met her offer to read Mathematics at Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge.  She got A*A*A A in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics A Levels, but her offer also meant that she needed a Grade 1 in each of her two notoriously difficult STEP papers – what a remarkable achievement.

‘I was a bit nervous about the STEP results, so I woke up at 3am to check them – when I got the 1s, I knew I would be fine!’

Product and Industrial Design at Central St Martin's for Megan

Congratulations to Megan, who has achieved A*AAA in Art, Maths, Physics, and Russian, as well as an A* in the Extended Project Qualification.  She is talented in a range of fields, but has chosen to pursue Product and Industrial Design at Central St Martin’s, which is regularly ranked number 1 in the world for creative arts courses.

‘I am really excited to go to a specialist art college in London.  I’m glad everything came together in the end, and it’s great to see all my friends doing so well.  It’s a lovely way to round off our school careers!’

Congratulations to them all.
