This month, we took away our largest ever cohort of GCSE students (81), on a residential Geography fieldtrip to The Calshot Centre on the edge of the New Forest National Park.
Spread over three days and nights, the trip saw the group head down to the bustling town of Lyndhurst, where they began taking measurements of the River Darkwater. Classroom sessions later in the day ran until 8.30pm and although challenging after an exhausting day, really highlighted the girls' admirable work ethic. These sessions proved extremely valuable as the Calshot tutors were able to add extra detail to the day’s study and teach the key investigative skills required for the Geography GCSE exams.
There was certainly time for some fun and the girls got the chance to experience Rock Climbing, Dry Slope Skiing, Archery, and even a team-bonding Low Ropes course at the Calshot Centre. In the evening on the Saturday everyone gathered under a starry sky to enjoy tasted marshmallows on the beach which was the perfect way to round off a day of hard work.
The group returned to Roedean feeling quite tired after a wonderful weekend away, but with a deeper understanding of the geographical sequence of enquiry.
