Austria Trip
Over the Easter break, 45 students and six members of staff headed to Austria to hit the slopes on their skis. It was a very early start but as they arrived in Innsbruck at lunchtime everyone was in surprisingly good spirits.
With the first two days seeing a great deal of snow, conditions were a little tricky for the group, especially the beginners. By day four everyone had made it to the top of the mountain by stairlift for lunch and then there was some great powder for the top group, while the beginners did a fantastic job of making their way from the top to the bottom of the mountain.
As the weather became warmer, technique was certainly put to the test, but the brilliant teaching from our instructors and the effort from the students meant everyone had a great time without any injuries!
National Youth Music Theatre for Galina for a 3rd Season
Year 12 student Galina spent a week over the Easter holidays rehearsing and performing with the National Youth Concert Band – her 3rd year in the band and her second as Principal Clarinet and Leader!
With a challenging programme of contemporary music, the band also performed the Trombone Concerto by BAFTA-nominated composer, Grant Kirkhope, and were joined by BBC Symphony Orchestra Principal Trombonist, Helen Vollam.
As well as performing for the NYCB again in Manchester this summer, Galina has also been accepted as a musician into the National Youth Musical Theatre for a 3rd season following a competitive round of auditions – congratulations!
Year 7 West End Workshop
At the end of the month our excited and enthusiastic Year 7s took part in a workshop with West End performer Kate Kendrick.
Learning the incredibly challenging choreography to Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious from Mary Poppins, all four groups did incredibly well and demonstrated such perseverance and determination – we are sure we will see some of them on the stage before long.
Roedean Golf
As the sun finally decided to show, our Roedean golfers dusted off the clubs and got back to hitting some balls.
Students from Years 7,9,10 and 12 spent time working on their swing on the Roedean driving range. It was a great afternoon and the students marvelled over their impressive shots and equally laughed at the less good ones! We look forward to hearing about their progress.
Boarding Round-Up
As they kicked off the summer term with some slightly brighter weather, our boarders were ready to get stuck into some of the exciting activities on offer at Roedean.
House 1 were fuelled by some yummy treats from the pantry as they rehearsed for the House Music. Swapping the treats for gardening gloves, they also had a go at planting seeds to grow cress with the aim of making egg and cress sandwiches in the near future!
The hard work paid off for House 2 as they were crowned winners of House Music. Not only did they perform amazingly, but they also did a great job of preparing props. They celebrated in style by enjoying the most delicious and perfectly decorated cakes made by Mrs Burns.
House 3 have enjoyed a huge range of activities over the last two weeks, but a highlight was definitely the Mexican themed night. With homemade quesadillas and loaded nachos with every dip you could imagine!
House 4 got creative as they celebrated World Art Day, making friendship bracelets, origami, and air cay modelling. They certainly didn’t miss out on sweet treats and enjoyed easter chocolate nests filled with mini eggs and tried some French and German cuisine on international evenings.
