This term, Key Stage 4 and 5 students put on the most incredible production of Jane Eyre. The cast of 14 created an ensemble retelling Charlotte Bronte’s novel, which follows the story of how Jane faces hardship and challenges in childhood and early adulthood, until she finally gains independence and equality.

Three dimensional characters were created by the cast, who remained on stage throughout the performance while they expertly represented aspects of Jane’s life. The seamless transition between choreographed ensemble sequences and portraying key characters from the story was brilliant and key to the audience’s experience. These ensemble moments allowed the audience to absorb the magnificent visual images that were created, such as using simple wooden frames to symbolise the opening of a window, and physical choreography to represent passengers in a carriage.

The superb production was accompanied by mesmerising cello music played by a single student who curated and composed all the music by herself, and the amazing set and spectacular effects wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the Roedean Theatre Team.
