One Roedean
On Opposite sides of the world, Roedean and Roedean South Africa were both founded by Lawrence sisters.
We are delighted that a brief visit to Brighton from Roedean South Africa in April 2018 has sparked a wonderful new relationship between the two Schools. On opposite sides of the world, our two schools were both founded by members of the Lawrence family, but have not had enough direct contact in recent decades.
The girls, who came from Johannesburg to Brighton, as part of a literary tour of England last April made a strong impression on their counterparts. Girls from both schools felt a very immediate connection and were keen to forge a strong relationship. When 16 Roedean girls, 3 members of staff and the Headmaster visited Roedean South Africa in November last year, they were welcomed with open arms. The incredible similarities between the schools were immediately obvious - wonderful locations and grounds, a strong and enduring connection with the schools’ founding values, a commitment to empowering young women to be future leaders, a warm and nurturing environment, and fantastic girls with great spirit and a drive to make a difference.
The two schools have started working together on joint projects, such as this review, to maintain and strengthen the links that were forged last year. Many girls are now communicating with each other, and we look forward to seeing what amazing things we can achieve together.
