Roedean Day 2017
Over 100 ORs and their guests enjoyed a great Roedean Day - despite the weather! - on Saturday 24 June
Some of the 40 Years On group catching up on Roedean Day
We were delighted to welcome back eighty ORs and thirty guests to Roedean Day. The largest group was the Class of 1977; 21 of them came to mark their '40 years on'.
All who visited enjoyed a lovely time which began with registration, coffee and pastries in House 2 ODR. Senior pupils from each of the Houses then escorted tour groups to Houses 1, 2, 3 and 4. There was plenty to see for our visitors, including the refurbishments in Keswick House (JH) where there was a Scholars' exhibition, the Archives in Blyth, and the Art Exhibition in the Art Studios and Old Ref. From 12 noon drinks were served in the Cloisters because it was a little too damp to be in the Quad! This was followed by an excellent lunch courtesy of Roedean's wonderful hospitality team in the Dining Room. Ginny Stephen, Chairman of the ORA, welcomed the group and the Headmaster, Oliver Blond, gave an interesting update on recent successes and exciting future plans.
Unfortunately, the heavy rain and blustery conditions meant that Sports Day had to be postponed. Nevertheless, twenty ORs braved the 'Tunnel Tour' after lunch. Some ORs stayed on to see the Theatre at 3pm where there was more time to reminisce about staff from days gone by. Although the strawberry tea was cancelled, a number of visitors stayed on to enjoy what the day is really all about - chatting and catching up with old friends - over tea and biscuits in the (old) staff room.
It was a pleasure to host so many ORs and guests. Hopefully even more will return for Roedean Day next year. So please do mark Saturday 23rd June 2018 in your diaries now!
