Keeping up with everything going on at Roedean.

School News
It has been another jam-packed week at the school as we head towards the first half-term break of the academic year. We are delighted that Roedean has been shortlisted for two national school awards, in the categories Boarding School of the Year, and Rising Star. The winners will be announced in December! On Monday the Politics Department was lucky enough to be visited by OR, Cristal Downing (No. 1, 1995-2002), who works as a Senior Policy Adviser at the UK Mission to the United Nations. She led a fascinating seminar for Year 13 Politics students, discussing the role and effectiveness of the United Nations. In other news, the History department took 75 girls from Years 10 and 11 to Belgium to visit the battlefields of World War One around Ypres and the Somme. The trip helped reinforce the girls’ knowledge of Surgery on the Western Front (part of their GCSE studies), but also provided an excellent opportunity to reflect on the enormity of this world war. And finally, on Thursday last week the A Level Art students went on a trip to the Tate Modern to provide inspiration for their projects. They visited the Anni Albers exhibition, the first craft exhibition at the Tate by a female artist, and enjoyed looking at the intricate weavings and learning about the material and processes involved in creating them.
