Amelia Morrison (No.3, 2017-2024) finished her A-Levels at Roedean last summer, and is currently on her Gap Year before she begins reading International Relations and Politics at Bristol University in September. Amelia is currently working at Roedean as a Marketing and Admissions Assistant before she goes traveling in Southeast Asia in March.

Whilst at Roedean, Amelia participated greatly in every aspect of school life, including performing in the School's annual major musical productions.

1. What is your favourite memory of Roedean?

There are too many to choose from! If I really had to narrow it down it would be my time in the Sixth form, endless lunchtimes and breaktimes where my friends and I all squashed together round a few sofas, making far too much noise for Ms Carragher’s liking (and than we should of done in our exam year), and living off of endless amounts of toast and coffee (the go to drink being a hot chocolate with a shot of espresso).

Aside from that – the musicals I was able to take part in – in particular Les Mis and Legally Blonde, where I was able to take on the contrasting roles of Eponine and Elle. I will always treasure my memories of performing on the Roedean stage.

2. What was the best piece of advice you were given whilst at School?

Don’t let your fear of getting it wrong stop you from giving it a go.

3. When you were at school, what did you want to be when you ‘grew-up’?

Before my final years at Roedean, my ultimate dream was to be a performer. Musical theatre and the West End became my dream. After thinking more about my future during my Sixth Form studies, I thought perhaps I could combine my love of performing with my interest in current affairs and international relations to pursue a career in Broadcast Journalism. This is the new dream.

4. What are you doing now that you’ve finished school and what does your job involve?

I work at Roedean! I am the current Marketing and Admissions GAP Assistant. I help the team process prospective parents to the school, and support on marketing initiatives and on social media. I have loved gaining work experience and being part of a professional working environment.

5. What are your plans for the future?

The short future is that I finish work and go traveling at the beginning of March! I plan to go to Southeast Asia for about 4-5 months (I haven’t booked my ticket home yet). I cannot wait!

Once I come back, I’ll start my degree in Politics and IR at Bristol, I am really excited to gain a deeper understanding of the subject.

After leaving university I don’t quite know what the future will hold. Maybe I will complete the dream and become a broadcast journalist, but I am also toying with the idea of a career in business consultancy.

6. What have you done that you are most proud of?

Finishing my A-Levels, and how I grew as a person during the time of doing them, as well as ever since.

7. What are the three objects you would take with you to a desert island?

My water bottle (with constant supply of ice water)

An Alexa (that somehow has Wi-Fi connection on the island), so I can play all my music and podcasts, and stay up to date with the world.

My mum (not an object I know) – my ultimate role model and best friend. I would also have to have someone to yap to on the island.

8. What books have had a significant influence on you and why?

Normal People - Sally Rooney. I think it’s beautifully written and tells such a raw story of love and life. It taught me how things don’t always have fairy tale endings, but that’s okay.

Little Women - Lousia May Alcot. This has always been my mum’s favourite – it taught me so much about being an independent woman and sisterhood - as an only child, my best friends at Roedean have taught me that same sisterhood and bond.

9. What is on your bucket list?

Travel. After my travels this year, I would love to go to Central and South America, and also travel Australia and New Zealand. I just want to keep on travelling and seeing as much of the world as I can! I believe this is the best education on politics and history that one can have.

10. If you had one year and unlimited funds, what would you do?

Continue my wish of exploring the world and donating money to charities in the countries that need them most. I was a member of the first cohort that travelled to Moldova with Roedean. The experience really changed my perspective of the world. Ever since coming back, I knew that I want to somehow enact positive change in the world – unlimited funds would certainly help in this way!
