On Saturday 23 June, a perfect summer’s day, we were delighted to welcome back 159 ORs and their guests to Roedean Day, one of the most important days in our calendar. We were especially pleased that 26 ORs attended from the Class of 1978 to mark their '40 years on'. A heartfelt congratulations to OR Robyn Crabbe (Blackburn, No.1, 1972 - 77) for all her hard work ensuring so many attended from that year.
The day began with registration, coffee and pastries in the Studios. After an hour of catching up with old friends and teachers, prefects from each of the Houses, along with House staff, escorted tour groups to Houses 1, 2, 3 and 4. As well as the House tours, there was plenty for our visitors to see, including the Archives in the Blyth, and the Art Exhibition in the Art Studios and Old Ref. From 12 noon drinks were served in the Cloisters, which was followed by a delicious lunch in the Dining Room. Roger Sanders, the new Chair of Council, welcomed everyone to the event, and Ginny Stephen, President of the ORA, gave a short address. This was followed by the Headmaster, Oliver Blond, who gave an interesting update on recent successes and exciting future plans for the School.
After lunch, a large group of ORs braved the 'Tunnel Tour', while others enjoyed strolling through the grounds to the playing fields, where they enjoyed watching (and participating in!) the School’s Sports day. Congratulations to all ORs, and staff members, who took part in the Golden Mile relay race at very short notice! The day was rounded off by a delicious strawberry tea enjoyed in the grounds of the School.
